The Course
PRIOR FIRM EXPERIENCE
Spokane Valley, Washington | Sports / Recreation
APPROACH + RESULT
Darren led the overall site and course layout, fitting multiple race distances into one facility and coordinating clear course identification. He designed the permanent marker system and finish line arch, along with the irrigation system needed to establish and maintain the competition turf. The system includes approximately 2.5 miles of six-inch HDPE mainline, 8.5 miles of laterals, and more than 800 sprinkler heads.
trentwood trailhead
PRIOR FIRM EXPERIENCE
Spokane Valley, Washington | Parks / Recreation
APPROACH + RESULT
Darren's work integrated everyday visitor access and equestrian use within a site closely bordered by existing residences. The parking and circulation layout separates passenger vehicles from larger trailers, while landform berms and layered native plantings screen the seasonal trailer area and soften views from neighboring homes. The drought-adapted landscape requires no permanent irrigation and blends the trailhead into the surrounding meadow and ponderosa pine setting.
Wildfire Defense
PRIOR FIRM EXPERIENCE
Post Falls, Idaho | Commercial
APPROACH + RESULT
Darren's work ties the landscape directly to the building's strong modern geometry. Linear concrete planter walls organize the accessible entrance walk, while repeated ornamental grasses, flowering perennials, and compact shrubs soften the architecture without limiting visibility. Sculptural raised concrete planters create a memorable foreground element, and rock mulch, drought-adapted planting, and efficient irrigation support a durable, low-maintenance landscape suited to the Inland Northwest climate.
